So, Why 'Barry Switzer Ate My Hamster Too!'?

Well, it's not that long a story. As you are probably aware Barry Switzer was the third Dallas Cowboys head coach between the years of 1994 and 1998 (after Jimmy Johnson and before Chan Gailey). Barry was something of a maverick as head coaches go and a character to boot.

In the UK there is a 'comedian' called Freddie Star who specializes in somewhat base and non-pc humour. At one point in the mid 90's, a somewhat bizarre story was published about him by a UK tabloid sleaze-paper entitled 'Freddie Star ate my Hamster'.

At that time The Dallas Cowboys Fanclub (as we were then known) was looking for a new name for its club newsletter/fan produced magazine. With Barry being a bit of a character, the newspaper article being a memorable one (even if it was a pack of lies) and the membership being about as non-pc as you get - it seemed a match made in Texas Stadium or Heaven whichever you prefer. The 'Too' on the end is a play on the word TWO as this was the second incarnation of the fanzine and the word 'TOO' meaning 'As Well' since both Barry and Freddie were both allegedly scoffing tailless rodents. It's often abbreviated to BSAMH2 or just The Hamster.

And that's how the name came about. Once you've heard of our fanzine, it's not something you'll forget in a hurry as some Cowboy assistant coaches and even the odd Dallas head coach have learned.
